Santa Ana Valley 10, Canyon 5--Two-meter man Fernando Garcia scored four goals, but it was Carlos Rubio’s play at hole set that keyed Santa Ana Valley’s victory.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 11, Sonora 10--La Habra (8-8, 1-0) edged host Sonora (0-1) by scoring a short-handed goal with three seconds to play. La Habra played the last 1:23 without its goalie, which allowed Sonora to tie the score in the last 26 seconds. Josh Jewitt and Kareem Captan each scored three goals for La Habra. Jeff Padgett led Sonora with four goals.

In the Serra League:

No. 6 Servite 14, St. John Bosco 7--Michael Kim scored six goals for host Servite (9-2, 2-0). Andy Prochnow led St. John Bosco (7-5) with four goals.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 6, Huntington Beach 3--Shaun Carman had three goals and five steals to lead Edison (7-6, 1-0).

In nonleague play:

La Canada 10, No. 5 Villa Park 6--Villa Park goalie Jared Jones had 10 saves, but it was not enough to stop La Canada, the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division III.

Cyrus Jamnejad led La Canada (10-3) with four goals. Mike Casagrande scored three goals for Villa Park (9-4).

In Serra League girls’ golf:

Santa Margarita 138, Mater Dei 144--Mater Dei’s Heather McDermott and Santa Margarita’s Megan Mulhaupt were co-medalists, each shooting a seven-over-par 43 at Coto de Caza North. Santa Margarita improved to 7-3, 3-0. Mater Dei is 5-2, 1-2.

In nonleague girls’ golf:

No. 4 Marina 258, Palos Verdes Peninsula 275--Marina (8-1) handed Peninsula its first loss of the year. Marina was led by Courtney Goebel, who had four birdies in the two-day match. She birdied the third and fifth holes at Palos Verdes Country Club and the fourth and eighth at Meadowlark.

San Clemente 153, Canyon 166--Stephanie Ott was the medalist for host San Clemente (5-4), shooting a 12-over 48 and making four pars at Pacific Country Club. Canyon dropped to 5-5.

In South Coast League boys’ cross-country:

El Toro 19, San Clemente 42--Chris Wilcox won for El Toro (2-0), running three miles in 16 minutes 6 seconds at O’Neill Park. San Clemente dropped to 1-1.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 15, Huntington Beach 48--Scott Brandos set a course record for Edison (3-0), winning the three-mile race at Central Park in 16:46. Huntington Beach drops to 2-1.

In South Coast League girls’ cross-country:

El Toro 18, San Clemente 39--Carly Edmonds won the three-mile race in 19:58 for host El Toro (1-1) at O’Neill Park.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 26, Edison 29--Edison’s Vanessa Crowell out-kicked Huntington Beach’s Michelle Wood to win the three-mile race by one second. Crowell set a course record, running 20:03 at Central Park. Huntington Beach is 3-0 in league play.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

No. 8 Troy 16, Villa Park 2--Aya Sakoda, Veronica Fermin and Serena Fermin won all of their singles sets and lost only one game. Troy is 6-1, Villa Park 4-4.

Tustin 12, Los Amigos 6--Khue Trinh and Isabelle Ocampo swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, for visiting Tustin (8-4, 4-2).

Katella 14 1/2, Connelly 6 1/2--Ana Waltz swept in singles and won a doubles set with Jacque Ricohermoso for visiting Katella (7-5). Connelly is 4-6.
