Martinez Named Whittier Christian AD

Carl Martinez has been named athletic director at Whittier Christian High, according to Bob Hubbard, the school’s associate athletic director.

Martinez replaces Robert Aviles, who left to teach at another school after being named an assistant basketball coach at Biola University.

COACHING

Jim Weeks resigned as Costa Mesa’s softball coach to devote more time to being the math department chairman, girls’ athletic director Pat Leahy said.

Weeks will continue as girls’ basketball coach.

Leahy also said that Crystal Whitmore, girls’ swimming coach, resigned after accepting a teaching and coaching position at Edison.

Cheri Swatek and Matt Mauser have resigned as varsity girls’ and boys’ swimming coaches at Marina to pursue other educational opportunties, according to Shelly Luth, girls’ athletic director.
