Ventura 21, Oxnard 20--Tony Williams’ conversion pass fell incomplete with 15 seconds remaining, and the Cougars escaped with a nonleague victory at Ventura High.

The Yellowjackets (1-4) had rallied from a 21-7 fourth-quarter deficit to set up Williams’ potential game-winning conversion.

Williams connected on seven of 10 passes on the final drive, including a 10-yard scoring toss to Aaron Neal to pull Oxnard to within 21-20. Neal caught five passes on the drive.

Following a Williams fumble at the Ventura 36 in the third quarter, the Cougars (5-0) used 13 plays in approximately six minutes to take a 21-7 lead on Tyler Ebell’s four-yard run.

Ebell scored two earlier touchdowns on runs of one and 11 yards, but was held to 89 yards overall in 23 carries. Tino Guerri added 94 yards in 14 carries for the Cougars.

Williams finished with 124 yards in 15 carries. He completed 11 of 17 for 120 yards with no interceptions.
