Liberty Christian Wins on Late Score
Mike Spagnola scored on a two-yard run with less than three minutes remaining, rallying Liberty Christian to a 24-22 victory in an eight-man Express League football game Saturday at Hare School Park in Garden Grove.
Liberty Christian (3-2, 1-1 in league) took an 18-8 halftime lead behind Nick Harbert’s touchdown passes of 18, 13 and seven yards to Aaron Mendoza, who gained 141 yards in nine catches. Harbert completed 12 of 31 passes for 169 yards.
Price battled back in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns in 45 seconds to take a 22-18 lead. Quarterback Aaron Allen scored on a four-yard run and Michael Daniel returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown for Price (2-2, 1-1). Allen completed five of 16 passes for 118 yards.
In 11-man football games:
Fairmont 54, Southern California Christian 12--Fairmont’s Bryan Kim gained 255 yards in 16 carries and scored three touchdowns at Glover Stadium.
Kim ran for a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter and had touchdowns of 27 and 51 yards in the second, helping Fairmont to a 38-6 halftime lead.
Adam Winokur rushed for a 33-yard touchdown in the first quarter, Amir Shah had two interceptions and Matt Russell had a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Fairmont.
SCC’s Brian Cochrane scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter and a 40-yard run in the third.
