Holes in Street to Be Filled for Halloween Carnival

Construction workers who dug up parts of Santa Monica Boulevard as part of a $32-million redevelopment and beautification project have been ordered to fill in the holes for Halloween.

City officials said hard-packed soil or concrete will be placed in portions of the street in time for an estimated 250,000 costumed revelers to march Sunday night.

The short-term repairs will result in a “safe pedestrian surface,” a city spokeswoman promised.

The boulevard will be closed from 2 p.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday from La Cienega Boulevard to Doheny Drive, officials said.

Starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, Robertson Boulevard will be closed from Melrose Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard will be shut down from Cynthia Street to Melrose.

Parking for the Halloween carnival will be available at the Pacific Design Center at 8687 Melrose Ave.

The carnival will run from 7 p.m. Sunday to 12:30 a.m. Monday. Comedian Judy Tenuta will serve as honorary mayor of the carnival.
