Brethren Christian Falls to Valley Christian

Brethren Christian quarterback Kyle Painter, the Olympic League’s second-leading passer, was held to 32 yards passing, as Cerritos Valley Christian easily won, 45-14, Friday at Clark Field in Lakewood.

The Warriors (3-5, 1-2 in league) had the ball 11 more minutes than Valley Christian, but were able to reach the end zone only twice.

Painter completed just four of 13 passes and all his completions came in the first half.

Valley Christian scored on its first two plays from scrimmage, a 44-yard pass and a one-yard run.

Brethren Christian then kept the ball for more than five minutes and ended the first-quarter drive on a four-yard scoring run by Steve Joo.

Brethren Christian was forced to punt on all three of its second-quarter drives, and Valley Christian (6-2, 2-1) scored 17 points, to take a 31-7 halftime lead.

On the second play of the third quarter, Crusader quarterback Mark Streelman, hooked up with Steven Andriese for a 64-yard score.

Joo answered back with a 72-yard touchdown run, three plays later, making the score, 38-14.

The Valley Christian defense held the Warriors to 37 yards, all on the ground, the remainder of the game.

Josh Harmon led the Warriors with 122 yards in 18 carries. Joo had 97 yards in nine carries.

Streelman was six of nine for 207 yards in three quarters.
