MY FAVORITE WEEKEND : Phil Hendrie

* The master of a thousand voices hosts a unique and entertaining talk-radio show on KFI-AM (640) from 7 to 10 on weeknights.

Food Wonderful Food: It takes me about 45 minutes to get home to Westlake Village after I sign off at 10 p.m., but my wife, Maria, always stays up to prepare something special. We had a martini picnic one night. Recently I came home and my wife had prepared a Greek meal. I know you think I’m making this up, but it’s true. We’ll have lamb meatballs with hummus, some pita bread and we’ll finish off an entire bottle of ouzo.

Waterlogged: When Saturday dawns, we’ll grab a pot of coffee and head straight down to our dock. We have a little 5-horsepower Electra Craft boat and we’ll take it out on a little tour of Westlake. I feel bad because the boat is kind of slow, but it’s a small lake so you can’t go very fast anyway. We’ll sometimes head up to Carpinteria. There’s a place there called the Spot where they have the most outstanding hamburgers I’ve ever had. Then we’ll head out to Carpinteria State Beach for some boogie-boarding and body surfing.

Fish Story: Saturday nights, we often go to this place in Westlake Village called the Landing Grill and Sushi Bar. We’ll go sit at the bar, order a tall hot sake and a cold Asahi and just talk with Greg and Dan, the sushi chefs. Recently we had a spirited debate about “The Blair Witch Project,” which devolved into a trashing of “Eyes Wide Shut.”

Dance with Me: At least once a month I take my wife dancing. She’s really energetic--she roller-blades and she rides a stationary bike. The only exercise I get is hosing off the back deck or maybe walking 20 feet down the street. So when we go dancing, I usually wind up leaning on the bar and watching. But I will dance if someone else is going to dance with Maria. I’m jealous and I don’t want to get violent.

Good Sport: On Sundays sometimes we’ll go on a long drive through the back country of Ventura County. I guess the idea of a Sunday drive goes back to my youth growing up in Arcadia. During the football season, we’ll watch a lot of NFL on TV. I try to watch baseball, but sports just aren’t holding my interest anymore. The WNBA is big in our house, though. The women play with 50 times the energy and enthusiasm of the men athletes, so we’re all big fans.
