San Fernando High might have found a replacement for running back Major Caldwell in its 33-16 nonleague victory over Jefferson in an opener Friday night at San Fernando.

Junior Bobby Stanley, playing his first game at tailback, rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns in 23 carries. He is replacing Caldwell, who set a school season record with 1,642 yards rushing as a senior last season.

Stanley picked up 119 yards in the first half, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter after Jefferson had moved ahead, 8-6.

He scored on a one-yard run midway through the quarter and on a 32-yard run late in the quarter.

Stanley scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter that built San Fernando’s lead to 26-8.

Thomas Hoohuli of San Fernando completed eight of 10 passes for 117 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown pass play to William Lang early in the fourth quarter.

San Fernando, which finished with 316 yards, held the Democrats to 115 yards.

John Brown, Jefferson’s sophomore quarterback, accounted for 99 of his team’s yards. He passed for 52 yards and rushed for 47 in 10 carries.

John Price scored twice for the Democrats on runs of one and five yards.
