Vynyl Electrician Gets a Pre-Halloween Fright

Share

It’s not even October, and already it’s getting spooky out there. An electrician wiring things up for Wednesday’s grand opening of Vynyl found a body in the rock club’s dumpster earlier this week. In a panicked Cockney brogue, he called 911 (now, that’s a call I want to hear on the TV news). The boys in the big red truck were first on the scene. One seasoned vet grabbed a stick, poked the corpse, and lo and behold, it rose from the stinky grave. But what happened next was the trippy part: The man sat up, reached into his back pocket, pulled out a comb and began slicking his hair back. Y’know, it’s Hollywood--you always got to be ready for that close-up. . . .

Those who enjoyed the free weenies and Dweezil Zappa and Lisa Loeb’s on-stage antics at Vynyl’s opener might have noted the neighboring Las Palmas Theater is up and running as Blue. A Helter Skelter reunion partied there on Saturday--boy, that must have been a sight, all those expanding booties in tight black pants. . . . In Strip news, the Saddle Ranch Chop House just opened at the old Thunder Roadhouse. I’ve got two words about that: mechanical bull. . . . Rick Calamaro’s got a hot Wednesday night joint at the Cat Club called C-Cubed--for chefs, celebrities and cocktails. . . . OK, time for bed, with visions of Iggy Pop playing acoustic in my head. Oh, that wasn’t a dream. He did. Tuesday. At the Viper Room. Viva la scene!
