Sophomore quarterback Jared Flint set an Orange Coast College single-game record with five touchdown passes as the Pirates beat visiting Saddleback, 42-25, in a Mission Conference football game Saturday.

Freshman tight end Ben Fredrickson also tied an OCC single-game record with three touchdown catches.

Orange Coast scored on all five possessions in the first half and was ahead 35-7 at one point.

Flint, who finished 23 of 32 for 237 yards, also had a pass intercepted off a tip. Flint, from Irvine High, had touchdown passes of 16, 15 and seven yards as well as two from two yards, both to Fredrickson.

Fredrickson, who also scored on a 15-yard pass, was so wide open each time he was waving his hands.

Flint had an outstanding game but he didn’t have the longest completion of the game for OCC (2-0). That honor went to running back Ray Ohrel.

The Pirates started the game with Ohrel in the shotgun and four wide receivers.

He had runs of four and eight yards then threw a 49-yard strike to David Castleton to give OCC a first down at the Saddleback 14.

Flint entered and handed off Ohrel who broke three tackles on his way to the first touchdown of the game.

“Ray’s always wanted to be a quarterback,” OCC Coach Mike Taylor said. “He’s a good athlete and this gives people something to think about.”
