Fillmore and Oak Park are 2-0 for the first time in several seasons.

Fillmore, 3-7 last season, had not won its first two games since 1990, the last time the Flashes posted a winning record (8-3).

“We’ve got something going that hasn’t happened here in a long time,” said second-year Coach Matt Suttle.

The Flashes host El Segundo on Friday night, their third consecutive home game.

“This will be a real test,” Suttle said. “We’re hopeful we can keep this going and win a few more games.”

The last time Oak Park, 5-6 last season, had a winning record was 1994. That was also the last year the Eagles won their first three games. Oak Park finished 10-2 that year.

Sophomore Monte McNair has quieted concerns at Oak Park about who would succeed Josh and Jesse Nicassio, who handled the Eagles’ kicking game four of the last five years.

“We were concerned about it,” Coach Dick Billingsley said. “We had no kicker and no punter.”

McNair has been perfect on four extra points and three field goals. Last week he averaged 35 yards per punt.

Jesse Nicassio, an All-Ventura County selection who made 23 of 27 extra-point attempts and 10 of 16 field-goal tries in 1997-98 and averaged 42 yards per punt last year, is at Washington State.

Josh Nicassio was an All-Southern Section selection in 1995.
