Houston Passes Ocean View to Another Victory

Deshai Houston threw four touchdown passes, giving him 14 in three games, and Ocean View improved to 3-0 with a 37-14 victory over Century on Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

Houston was held to a season-low 171 passing yards, but benefited from some exceptional work by his receivers.

Seniors Brett Crevda and Luka Levu and sophomores Patrick Campbell and Phillip Smith combined for 14 receptions, including a one-handed catch along the sideline by Smith, a touchdown by Crevda on which he won a wrestling match for the ball at the goal line, and a pair of impressive catches by Campbell.

Smith’s spectacular catch set up an 11-yard scoring pass from Houston to Levu to give Ocean View a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. After a Century punt, Levu took an inside handoff and went 25 yards for a touchdown, with a two-point conversion making the score 15-0.

Century (1-2) got 156 rushing yards from Tino Rivera, who was coming off a school-record 246-yard performance last week against Norwalk John Glenn. Rivera scored twice on one-yard runs, but the Centurions’ failure to establish a passing game damaged their cause.

Houston completed 17 of 36 passes for the Seahawks, who face Laguna Beach next Friday.
