Santa Ana Strikes Early Against Bolsa Grande

Share

It didn’t take the Bolsa Grande football team long to figure out that it was in for a long night Friday against Santa Ana.

Alfred Guidry broke a 59-yard run on the Saints’ first play from scrimmage, and Guidry rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-6 nonleague victory at Santa Ana Stadium.

Guidry’s opening run might have been his most impressive. After finding little running room up the middle, Guidry escaped and went down the right sideline to the Bolsa Grande seven. That drive ended with a Guidry fumble, but he atoned with a 23-yard scoring run after a Matador punt to give Santa Ana a 7-0 lead. On that run Guidry was hemmed in along the left sideline, but he reversed field and went around the right side for the score.

Guidry added a nine-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, then closed the half with a 68-yard scoring run out of punt formation. He finished the first half with 179 rushing yards and ended his night with a 36-yard touchdown run on the final play of the third quarter.

Reynaldo Flores added 85 yards on the ground for the Saints (2-1), who gained 401 yards in offense. Bolsa Grande (0-3) averted the shutout with a 31-yard scoring pass from Alex Guadarrama to Ernesto Rodriguez on the game’s final play. Bolsa Grande gained half its 180-yard output in the final 80 seconds of the game.
