The future briefly met the present for Westlake. There were few complaints with the outcome.
On the second series last Friday night against El Camino Real, quarterback Corey Miles, a 6-2, 200-pound junior, replaced Zac Wasserman.
Miles guided the Warriors to a 7-0 lead, completing all four of his passes for 67 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown to Michael Brignac.
The temporary switch was planned, Coach Jim Benkert said.
“He’s going to be the future here at Westlake and we need him to develop,” Benkert said. “He has the ability to run the team and he showed it on that series.”
Wasserman returned for the rest of the game, a 31-10 Westlake victory, and threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to help the Warriors break a 10-10 tie.
