Pierce Wins at 11th Hour
Andre Monroe’s run-scoring single with one out in the 11th inning gave Pierce College an 8-7 Western State Conference interdivisional baseball victory over Cuesta on Thursday at Pierce.
Traviss Hodge had two hits, including a two-run home run for Pierce (15-10, 11-6), which scored two runs in the ninth on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Jack Cassell started for Pierce, allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.
Canyons 13, Santa Barbara 6--Brent Pellico had three hits, including a grand slam, for the Cougars in a WSC interdivisional victory at Canyons.
Eric Ballew had three hits including a two-run home run, his 12th of the season, for the Cougars (15-11, 11-6).
The Master’s 7, Cal Baptist 3--Luke Kollmann had three hits, and Andy Salazar and Mike Ploharz each had two for the Mustangs (24-9) in a victory at Cal Baptist.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Moorpark 10, Pierce 1--Lauren Casper had three hits and five RBIs in a WSC Northern Division game at Moorpark that was halted after five innings because of the eight-run rule.
Dominique Colell had a double, triple and two RBIs for Moorpark (18-13, 10-5).
Canyons 3, Bakersfield 0--Sandra Rodriguez had three hits and scored a run for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division game at Bakersfield.
Chantal Pershing and Danielle Proctor each had two hits for Canyons (30-5, 15-0).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Canyon def. Saugus, 15-9, 15-3, 15-7--Gideon Gibson had 20 kills and 10 digs in a Foothill League victory for the Cowboys (6-2, 2-0) at Saugus.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Burbank 17, Canyon 1--The Bulldogs rolled to their 98th consecutive Foothill League victory at Burbank.
Top singles players Shara Surabi and Chris Lau did not lose a game for Burbank (10-1, 5-0), whose streak began in May 1990.
