Los Alamitos Knocks Off No. 2 Barons

Kristin Farber scored both runs as Los Alamitos upset second-ranked Fountain Valley, 2-1, in a Sunset League softball game Tuesday at Los Alamitos.

Farber gave Los Alamitos a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when she scored on a throwing error while attempting to steal third. Farber then broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth when she moved to third on a groundout and scored on a fielders’ choice by Phelan Wright.

Kim Dillon (4-4) pitched the final five innings, giving up two hits for the Griffins (9-5, 3-0).

Fountain Valley is 13-5, 2-1.

In another Sunset League game:

No. 5 Marina 7, Huntington Beach 4--Christina Klinzing had a three-run double and Heather Saltarelli singled, doubled and drove in a run for visiting Marina (12-4, 2-1).

In the Century League:

Canyon 2, No. 10 El Modena 1 (8)--Freshman Erin Slettvet doubled home Ashley Becker in the top of the eighth with one out to provide the winning run for Canyon (12-7, 2-1).

Lindsey Klabacha gave up six hits over the eight innings to improve to 8-7.

In the Empire League:

No. 4 Loara 1, Century 0 (11)--Katie Joosten’s two-out single drove in Jaclyn Huniu from second with the winning run for host Loara (15-1, 3-0). Joosten also pitched all 11 innings, surrendering only two hits, for the Saxons.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 5, Cerritos Valley Christian 1--Stephanie Williams took a perfect game into the seventh inning before giving up a walk and a single. She struck out 11 en route to the shutout for Calvary Chapel (8-8, 4-0).

In the Orange League:

Western 1, Valencia 0--Audra Ratajczak singled in Sarah Van Valkenberg for the winning run in the bottom of the third for Western (10-4, 3-0).

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 3, Trabuco Hills 1 (9)--Monica Alvarez doubled in two runs in the top of the ninth with one out to give Mission Viejo (7-7, 1-2) its first league win of the season.
