Lancaster Scores 3 in Sixth, Beats A’s

Harvey Hargrove had two hits, including a run-scoring single during a three-run sixth-inning, for the Lancaster JetHawks in a 3-2 California League victory over the Modesto A’s Tuesday at Modesto.

Jeff Heaverlo (2-0) allowed two hits in five innings and had six strikeouts.

Peanut Williams drove in a run with a ground out for the first run and Bo Robinson added a run-scoring single for the JetHawks (5-1).

Brian Gordon and Robert Hammock of High Desert opened the season as the hottest hitters in the Cal League.

In the first five games, Gordon batted .522 with three home runs and nine RBIs, and Hammock led the league with a .529 average and also had nine RBIs. Juan Silvestre of Lancaster was third in the league in RBIs with eight and Hargrove was fifth in batting with a .438 average.
