King captain Rob Blake got extra work in Game 1, spending 30:06 on the ice, and most of it was without his usual partner, Mattias Norstrom.

The two were split to allow one or the other on the ice as much as possible, though they were rejoined for penalty-killing and by game’s end were back as a twosome.

Blake had four shots on goal and four hits, one of them a rafter-rattling blow against Tomas Holmstrom in the first period. He also blocked six shots.

Norstrom, the only King to play in all 82 regular-season games, absorbed more punishment but had a couple of hits and finds himself handling the puck more when he is split from Blake.

King Coach Andy Murray had a deke of his own on the opening shifts, trotting out Kelly Buchberger at wing on a line with Jozef Stumpel and Ziggy Palffy, then using Craig Johnson on a line with Bob Corkum and Dan Bylsma.

On the second shifts for Buchberger and Johnson, they exchanged places and returned to the lines with which they have played for most of the last month of the season.
