Bollinger’s One-Hitter Gives Mater Dei a Title

Mater Dei won the San Dimas softball tournament title Wednesday with a 5-1 victory over Rancho Cucamonga.

Tia Bollinger (23-1) gave up one hit and struck out 11, giving the Mater Dei senior 305 strikeouts for the season.

Sophomore Christina Clark had three hits and Desiree Gutierrez added a run-scoring single for the Monarchs (24-1), who scored two runs in each of the first two innings. Rancho Cucamonga is 12-6.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 1, Troy 0--Andee Lindgren led off the top of the seventh with a double and came home on Carrie Wisen’s single, one of her three hits. Lindgren (9-3) struck out eight, gave up two hits and walked none for Sonora (17-5, 3-0). Host Troy is 13-6, 1-2.

In the Michelle Carew softball Classic:

No. 1 Foothill 2, No. 6 Rosary 1--Jessica Reiten’s single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh drove in Rachel Kitchens from second base, capping a two-run rally and giving Foothill (20-2) a come-from-behind semifinal victory. Kitchens had reentered the game after leaving for pinch-hitter Sarah Boardman, who singled in the tying run and stole second to set up the game-winning hit.

The Knights stole four bases and now have 98 for the season, breaking the school record of 96 steals set in 1995.

Esperanza 2, No. 8 Los Alamitos 1 (8, tiebreaker)--Freshman Molly Denkler hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to send the Aztecs into the title game against Foothill. Denkler also had a triple leading off the game.

Denkler’s line drive down the line scooted past the left-fielder and she slid head-first into home, beating shortstop Phalen Wright’s relay throw.

Freshman Kristen Dedmon (12-3) gave up six hits and struck out seven for the Aztecs (16-4).

Kristen Farber of Los Alamitos (13-6) had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth when the teams began using the international tie-breaker rule.

Fullerton 4, Western 1--The Indians scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning in a consolation game at Fullerton. Rachelle Bock singled in the tie-breaking run for Fullerton (11-7).

Valencia 1, Corona Centennial 0--Kim Miller’s two-out triple in the fifth drove in the lone run for Valencia (11-10) in the consolation game.

Orange Lutheran 2, Lakewood St. Joseph’s 0--Jessica Edwards faced the minimum 21 batters in recording her eighth victory for Orange Lutheran (8-2-1) in a consolation game. Edwards had 11 strikeouts and allowed just a bunt single in the fifth. The next batter hit into a double play to end the inning.

In the Woodbridge tournament:

Aliso Niguel 4, Bellflower 3--Erin Wallace hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Aliso Niguel (14-5-1) a pool-play victory. Wallace had five hits for the day, including a triple in a 3-0 first-round victory over Trabuco Hills.
