Pitcher Tim Thompson of Simi Valley Grace Brethren is within two victories of tying the state record of 51 career victories set by former El Segundo and major league standout Scott McGregor in 1969-72.

Thompson, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound senior, is 10-2 for Grace Brethren, which has won two consecutive Division VI championships. He is 49-7 in three-plus seasons.

Thompson moved past Scott Davison of Redondo Union (1986-88) on the all-time list with a victory in relief Monday against Ojai Thacher.
