Soboroff to Quit School Bond Panel
Mayoral candidate Steve Soboroff on Thursday said he is planning to resign as chairman of the volunteer committee that oversees the $2.4-billion school bond construction program to concentrate on his campaign.
He said he plans to vacate the post July 1.
Soboroff made the announcement during remarks at a public hearing held in Los Angeles by the Little Hoover Commission, the state agency that is looking into the Los Angeles Unified School District’s school construction practices.
Since the 1997 approval of the Proposition BB bond measure, Soboroff has used his position on the oversight panel to criticize district officials for their management of the massive construction program.
