Florida State Linebacker Polley Optimistic About His Return

Florida State linebacker Tommy Polley, who had reconstructive knee surgery in the off-season, said he hopes to play in the Seminoles’ opener against Brigham Young on Aug. 26. Polley suffered the injury in the Sugar Bowl. He has participated in non-contact drills and says he feels close to 90%.

Polley earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors last season when he led the national champion Seminoles with 109 tackles.

Wisconsin senior wide receiver Chris Chambers will be sidelined the first four to six weeks of the season because of a stress fracture in his right foot. Chambers, the Badgers’ top receiver last year, suffered the injury Friday in practice and underwent surgery Monday.

Wisconsin will be without Chambers for its games against Western Michigan on Aug. 31 and Oregon the next week.

Junior Rossi Martin, Idaho’s leading receiver last season, has been ruled academically ineligible. The Vandals’ other top receiver, Ethan Jones, is awaiting word about his academic eligibility. New Coach Tom Cable said Martin plans on improving his grades so he can come back for his senior season.
