1 Dead, 2 Burned in Thermal Pool
A concession employee was killed and two others were in critical condition after falling into one of Yellowstone National Park’s hot springs. Sara Hulphers, 20, of Oroville, Wash., was burned over her entire body. She died about 15 hours after the accident. The two injured were Tyler Montague, 18, and Lance Buchi, 18, both of Salt Lake City. The accident occurred in the Lower Geyser Basin seven miles north of Old Faithful. According to park spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews, the three were returning from a swim in the Firehole River when friends heard their cries. The three apparently fell into Cavern Spring, a 178-degree pool, she said.
