Ludlow Resigns as El Camino Real Coach

Neils Ludlow has resigned as boys’ basketball coach at El Camino Real High and will be replaced by assistant John Gould.

Gould has been an assistant the last two seasons.

* Ron Haywood has resigned as girls’ basketball coach at Highland High and has joined the staff at Louisville.

Haywood, who was 21-29 in two seasons at Highland, is expected to take over Louisville’s program beginning the 2001-02 season after Kevin Wiser steps down.

FOOTBALL

* Greig Carlson, an All-West Valley League receiver from Taft, has transferred to Palisades.

Kris Govea, a linebacker at Granada Hills, has transferred to Taft.

* The “Prep Football Kick-off Show,” featuring a rundown on every team in the City Section, will air Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on KLCS, the Los Angeles Board of Education’s television station. It will be repeated Sept. 2 at 9 a.m., Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. and Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m.

* Running back Durell Price, from Sylmar and UCLA, was one of 10 players released by the San Diego Chargers on Monday.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Regina Jacobs, a 1981 graduate of what is now Campbell Hall High, will compete in only the women’s 1,500 meters at the Olympic Games in Sydney next month.

Jacobs, 36, won the 1,500 and the 5,000--in an American record of 14:45.35--in the U.S. Olympic trials at Cal State Sacramento last month, but she has more international experience in the 1,500, having placed second in the 1997 and 1999 World championships.

* Dominique Arnold, an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge, moved to 10th on the all-time U.S. performer list in the men’s 110-meter high hurdles on Sunday when he ran 13.11 to finish .01 behind winner Colin Jackson of Britain in a meet at Leverkusen, Germany.

GOLF

* Andrew Farmer of Glasgow, Scotland, eliminated Don Baker of Canoga Park, 4 and 3, in the semifinals Sunday on his way to winning the British Mid-Amateur Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland.

Farmer downed defending champion John Kemp of Bedfordshire, England, in the final, 1 up.

TENNIS

* Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Tennis Assn. International Hardcourts Championships in New Jerseyby beating Chris Kwon of Boca Raton, Fla., 6-2, 6-0, in the second round on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

* Pitcher Chris Seddon of Canyon High and outfielder Delmon Young of Camarillo were selected to play for the U.S. against Japan national high school team in the Epson-Goodwill Series XV Sept. 2-4 at Blair Field in Long Beach.

VOLLEYBALL

* Middle blocker Josh Seffel of Village Christian committed to two-time defending NCAA champion UCLA.

SWIMMING

* Ken Grey has been appointed coach of Buenaventura Swim Club.

Grey, an assistant with the team for the last year, replaces Rob Mirande.
