Dear Traffic Talk:

To prevent gridlock, can left-turn signals be installed at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard, Tyrone Avenue and Beverly Glen Boulevard?

David Brown

Sherman Oaks

Dear David:

Following an investigation, engineers determined installing a left-turn arrow there would not prevent gridlock and would instead create delays for through traffic, said Irwin L. Chodash, East Valley District engineer for the city Department of Transportation.

Engineers reviewed traffic volumes, reported accidents and field observations to make their determination, he said.

Dear Traffic Talk:

When does the city plan to resurface Hazeltine Avenue from Oxnard Street to Sherman Way in Van Nuys? There are numerous potholes, bumps and cracks.

Maurice Richter

Van Nuys

Dear Maurice:

The city plans to repave Hazeltine from Sherman Way to Vanowen Street by next June, said Robert Reed, a spokesman for the city Department of Public Works. The portion between Oxnard and Victory Boulevard was resurfaced three years ago, he said, and there are no plans to repave from Victory to Vanowen.

To try to get the portion from Vanowen to Victory resurfaced, call the city Bureau of Street Services at (213) 473-8410 to request that a supervisor visit the stretch to determine if it needs to be repaved.

To learn the streets that have been scheduled for resurfacing, log onto the city’s Web site at https://www.lacity.org. Click on Departments, Commissions and Committees and then on Street Services Bureau.
