Help for Victims of Fire

Share

Re “Volunteers Cook Up Way to Aid Fire Victims,” Nov. 23.

Thank you for your article regarding the Thousand Oaks Shadow Hills apartments fire and the supportive response from the community.

Most of the 31 families have been transplanted from somewhere else and therefore lack the support system that we who have lived here many years have been able to achieve. They work in very low-paying jobs and have lost everything to this devastating fire.

Most do not have cars and must struggle to get their children to school and themselves to work. Their motel rooms have no kitchens, so the meals provided by the Red Cross and the community are lifesaving.

Many Mansions, which operates Shadow Hills, has a multitude of programs to help residents move to self-sufficiency. If any good can come of this, perhaps it will be in Many Mansions residents knowing how much you care about them.
