The 1984 Los Angeles Olympics turned a net profit of $222.7 million, and at the time was hailed as the most lucrative sporting event in history. But would a 2012 Olympics in the City of Angels generate a similar haul? Los Angeles attorney and USC trustee John Argue, who headed the city’s bid for the ’84 Games, is betting it can. Argue is spearheading L.A.’s drive to play Olympic host for the third time, and he plans to talk about his efforts and their possible economic impact in a speech Tuesday sponsored by TownHall Los Angeles. His remarks are scheduled for noon at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. For information, call (213) 312-9465.
