Long Shot Pays Off for High School Player in Tennessee
Taurean Moy was shooting so well from three-point range that his Booker T. Washington High teammates kept passing him the ball. The 6-foot senior guard finished with 83 points and two national records.
Moy set records for most threes made and attempted as he made 24 of 43 Tuesday night in his team’s 115-59 victory over Manassas. That topped the 21 of 39 by Chad Bickley of Valley Christian Academy of Santa Maria, Calif., in 1994.
Moy’s enjoyment of his accomplishment was dampened Wednesday when he was arrested by Memphis police on charges of domestic violence and possession of marijuana.
A police report said an officer on patrol arrested Moy after seeing him strike a teenage female. The report said a bag with a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana was found in Moy’s pocket.
Moy said the incident was a misunderstanding. He said he and his girlfriend were not fighting.
In Tuesday’s game, Moy scored his team’s first 24 points and had 52 at halftime.
Some of Moy’s teammates used cellular phones from the bench, calling friends to come and see a piece of history.
