* Carmen Ramirez; Lifelong Santa Paula Resident

Carmen Ramirez, a homemaker and lifelong Santa Paula resident, died Dec. 5 at a convalescent hospital in Sunland. She was 84.

She was born on Aug. 6, 1916, in Santa Paula and had lived there until her recent illness. She grew up with 10 brothers and sisters.

In 1936, she married Fidencio Ramirez, and the couple had two daughters.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula for many years, where she participated in church activities.

She loved to crochet and spent many hours knitting.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years in 1990 and her daughter, Helen Ramirez, in 1992.

She is survived by daughter Josie Ramirez of Santa Paula; sisters Mercedes Ante of Ventura, Sylvia Garcia of San Diego and Eleanor Fox of Seattle; brothers Raymond Escoto of Vallejo, John Rodriguez of Santa Paula and Joel Garcia of Sacramento; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday.

Arrangements were under the direction of Pierce Bros. Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula.
