Tim Harvey Will Fill Council Seat

The City Council this week appointed Tim Harvey to fill the seat left vacant this month by former Councilwoman Lynn Daucher, who was elected in November to the California Assembly.

Harvey, an assistant superintendent for the La Habra City School District, was sworn in by Daucher on Tuesday.

Councilman Steve Vargas abstained in the 3-0 vote to appoint Harvey. Vargas had supported Planning Commissioner Don Schweitzer for the position. In November, Schweitzer ran third against Bev Perry and Marty Simonoff, who were reelected. Perry has said that the appointment should not be limited to those who ran in the recent election, since most of those candidates were opponents hoping to unseat her or Simonoff.

“There were many qualified people who decided not to run against us in November,” she said. “I don’t think it would be fair to exclude them from the process.”

Daucher, a Republican, was elected to the 72nd District Assembly seat. She replaces former Assemblyman Richard Ackerman, who was elected in November to the state Senate.
