No. 7 El Dorado Wins Easily

Share

El Dorado released plenty of frustration on Corona del Mar during a 85-35 victory Tuesday in a pool-play game at the Estancia Coast Holiday Classic boys’ basketball tournament.

The seventh-ranked Golden Hawks (10-2) were playing for the first time since losing to Brea Olinda, 65-61, Friday.

That loss gave El Dorado Coach Tim Tivenan a chance to challenge his players.

“We were coming off a tough loss,” Tivenan said, “and how you play after a game like that says something about what kind of team you are.”

The answer came early for El Dorado, which caused five first-quarter turnovers and opened a 21-5 lead.

Junior forward David Patten, who had 20 points, led the way in the second and third quarters. He had eight points in the second quarter and the Golden Hawks pushed the lead to 42-18.

Patten then scored 10 of his team’s 22 points in the third quarter, including a rebound basket off a missed free throw in the closing seconds.

He also had two of his four blocked shots in the third quarter.

“When he plays balanced and strong he’s pretty effective under the basket,” Tivenan said.

Junior guard Kyle Miller, who made three three-pointers, finished with 18 points for El Dorado.

Eric Snell had a team-high eight points for Corona del Mar (2-8).
