The Robinsons-May store at the Pacific View Mall suffered more than $100,000 in damage after a fire sprinkler head malfunctioned.

Just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, a sprinkler in an upstairs storage area began pouring water into the store, said Lenora Viveros, an administrative secretary for the Ventura Fire Department. The water began on the top floor and flowed to other floors, Viveros said.

The water caused about $100,000 in damage to merchandise and $10,000 in damage to the structure.

The store was supposed to stay open until 11 p.m., but closed when the sprinkler broke, said Mary Wiacek, an assistant to the director of public relations for the chain. No one was injured, and the store reopened for business and repairs on Wednesday.
