Second-Half Run Gets Glendale Started in Tournament Rout

Glendale College went on a 10-0 run to start the second half and cruised past Sierra, 91-69, Friday night in a semifinal game of the San Diego Mesa men’s basketball tournament.

Tim Taylor scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half for Glendale (12-5), which won its sixth consecutive game.

Canyons 78, Antelope Valley 71--Nicolas Echevestre and Dax Grooms each scored 15 points to help the Cougars finish third in the Canyons tournament.

Jerome Edwards had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars (5-13), who out-rebounded Antelope Valley, 45-23.

Luther College 69, Cal Lutheran 66--Justin Muth scored 33 points, but the Kingsmen (4-3) lost in the first round of the Cal Lutheran tournament.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 83, Rocky Mountain 66--Jordon Whittington made 17 of 18 free throws and scored 29 points for Master’s in the championship game of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament at Vanguard University.

Erin Buescher had 17 points and Leslie Dubois added 15 for the No. 21-ranked Mustangs (14-2).

Glendale 47, Cuesta 40--Marilyn Dubon scored 23 points for host Glendale (10-7, 1-1) in a Western State Conference interdivision game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

L.A. Baptist 3, Western Christian 2--Robbie Krohn scored a goal in each half for L.A. Baptist (7-2-3) in the consolation championship of the Ontario Christian tournament.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Quartz Hill 3, Thousand Oaks 2--Kellie Cox had two goals and one assist as the Rebels (8-3-1) won the Simi Valley tournament with their eighth consecutive victory.

Cox assisted on Alisha Bassett’s goal in the 20th minute and scored in the 70th minute.

She broke a 2-2 tie with an unassisted goal from five yards in the 78th minute.
