Luderer’s Sharpshooting Sparks Notre Dame, 82-73

Michael Luderer scored 28 points, including five three-pointers, and Notre Dame High defeated Chaminade, 82-73 in overtime, in a Mission League boys’ basketball game on Wednesday at Notre Dame.

Luderer made back-to-back three-pointers to spark an 18-9 run by the Knights (19-5, 8-2) in overtime.

Scott Borchart scored 29 points for Chaminade (14-7, 5-4 in league), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times. Borchart could have won the game in regulation, but he missed the second of two free throws with one second left.

The No. 6 Knights (19-5, 8-2) trailed by 14 in the third quarter and pulled to within seven when Cody Pearson fouled out with 3:50 remaining. Pearson finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Pearson’s replacement, Derrick Hennessy, scored a career-high 12 points. Luderer also had nine rebounds and six assists.

Simi Valley 92, Moorpark 70--Branduinn Fullove scored 27 points and Brett Michel had 24 to help the Pioneers (21-2, 9-0) clinch at least a tie for their second consecutive Marmonte League title.

Fullove became the second Simi Valley player to surpass 2,000 career points. Don MacLean holds the Simi Valley career scoring record with 2,343 points in three seasons (1985-88).

The victory was the 10th in a row for Simi Valley, the top-ranked team in the region, and gave the Pioneers their 22nd consecutive league win.

Shaun Michel, Brett’s brother, had 10 points, 12 assists and six steals while playing the entire game because starter--and No. 2 point guard--Anish Sharda did not play for unspecified reasons.

Todd Tomlinson scored 26 points for Moorpark (15-7, 4-5) after being held to a season-low four points in an 81-50 loss to Simi Valley on Jan. 10.

Grant 67, Canoga Park 57--Grant held Canoga Park to two-of-15 shooting during the fourth quarter of a Sunset Six League game at Grant.

DeWayne Anderson scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half for Grant (7-15, 7-0), ranked No. 7 in the region.

Cecil Brown scored 24 for Canoga Park (9-12, 2-5).

Cleveland 78, Chatsworth 56--Quenton Harvey had 21 points and 10 rebounds for host Cleveland (15-7, 6-1), ranked No. 8 in the region, during a West Valley League game.

Hueneme 54, Rio Mesa 53--Frank Thompson scored 18 points and the host Vikings (13-8, 4-2) won a Pacific View League game.

Hueneme’s Johnie Williams had seven points and 11 rebounds.

Oxnard 66, Camarillo 59--Matthew Merricks scored 17 points and the Yellowjackets (19-4, 6-0), ranked No. 4 in the region, won a Pacific View League game at Camarillo.

Ventura 61, Dos Pueblos 60--Mike Derse scored 23 points and made four free throws in overtime and the Cougars (16-7, 5-1) won a Channel League game at Ventura.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

North Hollywood 61, Verdugo Hills 23--Coach Rich Allen got his 300th career victory in a Sunset Six League game at North Hollywood.

Allen’s teams are 300-87 in his 17 seasons at North Hollywood.

Kaipresha Price had 21 points and Richelle Sherman added 16 for the Huskies (15-7, 6-1).

Chatsworth 56, Cleveland 36--Liz Sun had 17 points and the host Chancellors (16-4, 7-0), ranked No. 9 in the region, won a West Valley League game.

Newbury Park 53, Royal 49--Nancy Pabon stole the ball and scored with 12 seconds left in overtime to clinch the Marmonte League title for host Newbury Park (18-4, 8-0), ranked No. 5 in the region.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 1, Notre Dame 0--Mindy Wyatt scored her seventh goal, on a header from Kim Taylor, in the 20th minute of a Mission League game, for the Eagles (16-4-4, 5-0-3) at Chaminade.

Katie Thomas recorded her 10th shutout for the Eagles (5-0-3).
