Storr’s Personal Best Has Extra Meaning

Share

Jamie Storr remains largely unmoved by his 13th victory of the season, achieved Wednesday night at Chicago, even though he had never won more than 12.

“I’ve never played with a team like this one,” said Storr, who has won four games in a row and probably will get a rest tonight against the Red Wings, in favor of Stephane Fiset, who has had success against Detroit in the past.

“I’ve never played with a team that had this much firepower, this much defense.”

And he has never played in the circumstances he’s playing in now.

“I’ve never played at this time of the year when games have meant this much,” Storr said of the Kings’ playoff situation. They are tied for sixth in the Western Conference.

“In the past, when I played the games were important, sure, but not as important as they are now.”

The Kings spent Thursday off the ice, part of it listening to Colin Campbell and Mike Murphy of the NHL explain rules, enforcement and players’ on-ice conduct concerning officials.

There also was a plea for players to respect other players, which is believed by many to be the key to keeping on-ice incidents under control and to helping curtail injuries.

* Update--Each team has won four in a row. The streak has brought Detroit to within a point of the St. Louis Blues for the best record in the West. The last time the Kings were at Joe Louis Arena, a 3-1 loss ended with Coach Andy Murray and Dave Taylor, the team’s senior vice president and general manager, in the officials’ dressing room for 20 minutes, seeking an explanation for a third-period penalty on Glen Murray. The Kings beat Detroit, 6-3, on Feb. 3 at Staples Center.
