King center Ian LaPerriere and Duck winger Stu Grimson lead their teams in penalty minutes, but each will have to pick up the slashing, hooking and fighting if they are to catch their organizations’ single-season record holders. Through 59 games, Grimson had 91 penalty minutes. The Duck record is 285, set by Todd Ewen in 1995-96. LaPerriere had 155 minutes in 56 games, well off the 1992-93 pace of brawler Marty McSorley, who finished with 399.

The NHL’s all-time single-season penalty minutes leaders:

1. Dave Schultz, Philadelphia (1974-75), 472 minutes

2. Paul Baxter, Pittsburgh (1981-82), 409

3. Mike Peluso, Chicago (1991-92), 408

4. Dave Schultz, Los Angeles/Pittsburgh (1977-78), 405
