Child Drowns After Climbing Into Tub
A 13-month-old boy drowned Tuesday after climbing into a bathtub and turning on the water, authorities said.
James Robert Kelly was napping with his dad around noon in the bedroom of the family’s mobile home in the 1500 block of Rory Lane when he woke up and walked to the adjoining bathroom.
His father, who authorities would not identify, awoke when he heard water running and ran to the bathroom.
The toddler was rushed to Simi Valley Hospital, where he died a short time later, authorities said.
The boy’s mother was at work at the time and an older sister was visiting a grandmother.
Simi Valley police are investigating the death as an accidental drowning, said James Baroni, a senior deputy coroner.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
