Conner Scores 4 Goals in Esperanza’s Victory

Senior Jessica Conner had four goals to help unranked Esperanza beat ninth-ranked Rosary, 11-4, in a nonleague girls’ water polo game Monday.

Kelsi Mills had six saves for the Aztecs.

Natalie Golda, who plays for the U.S. women’s national B team, scored two goals for Rosary.

In other nonleague games:

No. 5 Foothill 22, Fountain Valley 3--Freshman Brittany Hayes scored seven goals. Daylene Coberly and freshman Gabrielle Domanic each had five goals for host Foothill (4-1).

Freshman goaltender Emily Feher had nine saves for the Knights.

Edison 3, University 2--Junior Ashley Bookspan scored with 2 minutes 41 seconds left in regulation to give visiting Edison the victory.

Junior goaltender Caitlin Wilkes had the other two Edison goals. She scored each on shots from the Edison goal. She also recorded seven saves for the Chargers (4-5).

Katie Tretz and Katie Gohtbrehtt scored for University (3-6).

Huntington Beach 10, Woodbridge 7 (OT)--Caroline Chagollan scored five goals for Huntington Beach despite being held scoreless in the first half. Chagollan scored with 54 seconds left in regulation to tie the score, 5-5, then scored three more goals in the overtime to put the game away.

The Oilers (2-0) also got three goals from Eryn Houston and two goals from Kristin Freeman and nine saves from goalie Laura Sundorman.

Kara Danduran, Rochelle Gauthier and Sawako Sonoyama scored two goals each for Woodbridge (3-10).

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

No. 8 El Toro 76, Santa Ana 38--Chris Parish scored 17 points and Kyle Martin, Brian Kennard and Ashkan Nazeri scored 13 points each for visiting El Toro (12-4).

Rick Montelongo scored 11 points for Santa Ana (5-9), which led 18-10 after one quarter.

Fullerton 55, Norwalk Glenn 32--Fullerton swingman Michael Bridgeford scored 17 points and guard Akashi Azubuike had 13.

Fullerton (12-2), which led by 10 points after three quarters, outscored Glenn, 22-9, in the fourth quarter to put the game away. The Indians also got three three-pointers from forward Puhk-Maan Sidhu, who finished with 11 points.

Huntington Beach 61, Cypress 53--Guard Matt Sanders scored 19 points, had 10 rebounds and five assists for the host Oilers.

Justin Yun had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for Cypress (9-5).

Huntington Beach, trailing by four, went on a 10-0 run late in the third quarter to take the lead for good. Huntington Beach (3-14) also got 16 points from point guard Mike Allen.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Servite 5, Kennedy 2--Jeff Murphy scored two first-half goals, his 12th and 13th of the season, for Servite.

Servite (14-3-3) also got first-half goals from Rob Vallejo and Ryan Day.

The Friars’ Matt Kubota scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season in the second half.

Diego Figueroa scored twice and Stephen Gray made 18 saves for Kennedy (7-6).

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Dana Hills 2, Laguna Beach 1--Freshman Dayna Knowles’ goal less than one minute into the second half gave Dana Hills (5-6) a 2-0 lead.

Dana Hills’ goalie Katie Shields stopped a penalty shot early in the game.

Laguna Beach’s Erin Beuacqua scored late in the second half.

Rosary 2, Sonora 1--Annie Saavedra and Shauna Rech each scored second-half goals to lead visiting Rosary (8-5).

Sunny Hills 6, Estancia 0--Loni Bishop scored all three of her goals in the first half. Sisters Kelly and Kristy Glover scored one goal each and Stacy Pelphrey added the sixth goal for Sunny Hills (8-4-1).
