Ensuring that Irvine’s athletic fields and pools keep pace with the booming growth in sports activities is the prime challenge this year for two city advisory boards.

“Irvine is a very active community, and youth sports and related activities are always going to be a popular activity,” said J.K. Koss, vice chairman of the Irvine Sports Committee.

The Irvine Sports Committee and Irvine Aquatics Advisory Board face an annual review at tonight’s meeting of the Community Services Commission.

The sports panel helps plan for new parks and makes crucial decisions about the use of athletic fields, Koss said.

The Aquatics Advisory Board has a similar mission, helping manage time at Heritage Park Aquatics Complex for more than 20 school and community groups that use the three pools.

The Irvine Community Services Commission will meet at 6:30 tonight at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
