Freeway Shut After Truck Overturns

Share

Northbound traffic on the Golden State Freeway was closed for two hours Thursday morning after an overturned 18-wheeler spilled roofing tiles and more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel across the highway, authorities said.

The truck’s driver suffered minor injuries in the three-vehicle crash, which occurred about 10 a.m. south of San Fernando Mission Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Rosa Ray. No other injuries were reported, she said.

The driver apparently lost control after swerving to avoid traffic that had slowed because of roadway debris. The truck, which was hauling roofing materials on a flatbed trailer, struck two vehicles before overturning across the right three lanes of traffic, Ray said.

A Caltrans crew cleaned up the spill by dumping sand on the diesel fuel, and two northbound lanes were reopened at 12:05 p.m.
