Body Found in Trunk of Burning Car
A charred body was found in the trunk of a burning car Monday afternoon in a remote area of Irvine, police said.
Orange County firefighters responded to a 2:44 p.m. call about a vehicle on fire in a vacant lot near Laguna Canyon Road and Waterworks Way.
“It was completely engulfed in flames shooting 30 feet in the air,” said Lt. Dave Freedland, a spokesman for the Irvine Police Department. “The fire was extinguished within minutes, leaving only the metal shell of the vehicle with its interior compartment destroyed.”
The body inside the vehicle was burned beyond recognition, investigators said. The death is being investigated as a homicide. “At this point we don’t know a thing,” Freedland said.
