Interest in the Super Bowl in Italy is minuscule. Telepiu, a cable channel with 1.5 million subscribers nationwide, has telecast regular-season NFL games and the Super Bowl since 1991. It has no figures on Super Bowl audiences, but doesn’t think interest has grown beyond a small core of die-hard fans.
Claudio Mele, a spokesman for Italy’s Olympic Committee, said: “It would be difficult to find anyone in Italy who knows three rules about American football.”
