Capital Punishment for Sacramento Reader

I couldn’t help but notice Jack Shinar’s pitiful attempt at insulting Los Angeles for winning a championship [Viewpoint, June 24]. He lives in Sacramento and I find it funny that he criticized the Lakers’ postgame celebration. Yes it was outrageous, but I guess destroying cars isn’t as cool as burning a Laker jersey during announcement of the starting lineups, right?

I got a kick out of Jack Shinar’s rather surreal rant referring to the Lakers as “mercenaries” and saying they “bought” a championship. Yes, I remember the league throwing up their hands in surrender with the October signings of A.C. Green, Brian Shaw, Ron Harper, and John Salley.

Mr. Shinar then refers to Phil Jackson as a “Hessian” (a Zen Hessian?) and further graces the team’s victory drive with the obligatory “goose-stepping” reference.

Well, this nondrinker now has a little clearer understanding of the esteemed wine centers of the Central Valley. Chardonnay grapes come from Napa, Chianti grapes come from Fresno . . . and sour grapes come from Sacramento.
