Aliso Niguel Fires Girls’ Basketball Coach

Kristen Okura, who coached Aliso Niguel to a 14-13 record last season without any returning starters, has been fired as the Wolverines’ girls’ basketball coach.
“They told me they were going in a different direction with the program,” Okura said of her meeting last week with Athletic Director Mike Middlebrook and Principal Steven Lawrence.
Okura was an assistant at Brea Olinda before taking over at Aliso Niguel, her first head coaching position. She went 19-34 in two seasons. The Wolverines were 5-21 in 1998-99, then moved from the Pacific Coast League to the tougher Sea View League and finished fourth. In the last five seasons, the team has gone 8-16, 14-11, 14-12, 5-21 and 14-13.
Middlebrook could not be reached for comment.
