Unity Center Hosts Book Discussion

* A discussion series on the book “Seat of the Soul” by Gary Zukav is scheduled at 9 a.m. Sundays at Unity Center Church in Thousand Oaks followed by services at 10 a.m. at the Old Meadows Park Community Center.

Mass Schedule at St. Anthony’s

Adventists Present Gospel Concert

* The public is invited to a July 29 gospel concert by recording artists Herman and Sonnie Harp at the Ventura Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Sonnie Harp is a soloist, songwriter, arranger, producer and keyboardist whose music is performed internationally. Her husband Herman is a soloist, violinist and guitarist who began sharing Christian music more than 45 years ago. He sang 23 years with the gospel group Ponder, Harp, & Jennings.

The couple travel the country, musically sharing the story of Jesus Christ.

The church has Sabbath school for all ages each Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday worship at 10:50 a.m.

Lutheran Vocations Examined

* Young people who belong to Region II of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America can explore a variety of church vocations at the ninth annual Invitation to Service at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks on Aug. 3-5.

Young people from high school to college age will learn about the roles of pastors, missionaries, associates in ministry, diaconal ministers, music ministers and youth ministers during the event, which will feature special music, small group interaction, recreation, devotionals and Bible study.

Keynote speaker will be Tiger McLuen, executive director of Youth Leadership’s Center for Youth and Family Ministry in Minneapolis.

Vacation Bible School Offered

* St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Newbury Park is turning its church into a clubhouse for kids and is welcoming all children to attend its vacation Bible school.

Registrations are being accepted for children ages 3 to grade six to attend Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7 through 11. There is a $5 fee. Lessons will focus on stories about God’s work done by children.

Church to Take Trip to Italy

* St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fillmore will take a pilgrimage of prayer to Italy from Sept. 28 to Oct. 12.

Pastor Joseph Hernandez will celebrate daily Mass and spiritual direction. The cost for the trip will be about $3,000.

Temple Group to Tour Israel

* A two-week tour of Israel will be led by Rabbi Shimon Paskow and his wife Carol beginning Oct. 29.

People of all religions are welcome to join the tour, which will visit many cities including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Jericho and Masada. Those participating will have the opportunity to swim in the Dead Sea, see the Dead Sea Scrolls, the ancient Western Wall and the recently opened tunnel of the Western Wall and other historic and archeological sites holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims. The group will also meet prominent Israeli personalities.
