In the midst of battling a 20-acre brush fire Saturday, a county Fire Department helicopter lost power and was forced to make an emergency landing, slightly injuring the pilot, authorities said.
The helicopter landed hard in a flat patch of dirt near the fire, said dispatch supervisor Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It was not clear what caused the chopper to lose power, he said.
The pilot was treated for back and neck pain at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
About 200 firefighters and three helicopters fought the blaze, which started near Pico Canyon Road and Stevenson Ranch Parkway. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Marrujo said.
The fire was reported at 12:20 p.m. near a construction site where worker was killed Thursday when he was run over by a grading machine.
Firefighters contained the flames within about two hours.
