FAA Sets Final Community Meeting on LAX Problems
The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday will hold the final meeting of its task force to address issues of noise and other concerns stemming from Los Angeles International Airport operations, officials said.
The meeting of the Southern California Task Force will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Proud Bird restaurant, 11022 Aviation Blvd., in the Escadrille Room.
The task force was formed in 1998 after FAA Administrator Jane Garvey attended a Westchester town hall meeting on airport issues. It met monthly for a year with local elected officials, community leaders and airport representatives to resolve some of the problems.
Its scheduled disbanding late last year prompted objections from task force members and civic activists.
Monday’s meeting, along with one earlier this month on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, is being held as a transition to a follow-up community forum promised by airport officials.
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter, a critic of current operations problems and a proposed massive airport expansion, urged residents of Los Angeles, Inglewood and South Bay communities to attend the meeting.
