The formula, if a little bizarre, has worked for El Camino Real in the past.

Two years ago, the Conquistadores were the No. 6-seeded team in the City Championship playoffs after losing to Chatsworth three times in the regular season.

They won the City title that season.

This year, El Camino Real lost to Chatsworth three times during the regular season and were again seeded No. 6 in the City Championship tournament.

Once more, they are working their way through the playoffs, their most recent victory an 8-2 decision Tuesday over San Pedro in the quarterfinals.

El Camino Real plays No. 2-seeded Roosevelt today in the semifinals.

“I don’t know if I can draw any parallels yet [to 1998],” said Coach Bob Ganssle of El Camino Real. “But it’s an interesting scenario.”

One thing is for certain. If the Conquistadores hit four home runs as they did against San Pedro, the parallels might become more obvious.
