3 People Seriously Hurt in 2 Traffic Accidents

Three people were seriously injured in two accidents Sunday evening on Thompson Boulevard.

The first accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. when a suspected drunk driver in a pickup truck broadsided a Mustang convertible that was attempting to turn left onto Oak Street from Thompson Boulevard.

The convertible spun into a gas station and hit a third vehicle.

A male passenger in the Mustang was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with severe head injuries. The car’s driver sustained severe leg injuries and was also taken to the medical center. Both men are believed to be from Santa Barbara.

Police arrested the male driver of the pickup on suspicion of drunk driving. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured, police said.

A short time later, a man driving a Volkswagen Beetle suffered serious head injuries when he ran a stop sign at Anacapa Street and Thompson Boulevard and hit another vehicle.

The driver, whose residence and age were not available, was also taken to Ventura County Medical Center.
