Rice Misses Shots, Missus Shouts

Share

Attention, Mr. and Mrs. Rice:

Please stop your whining about Glen’s lack of playing time. It’s really quite simple: Do the job on the court, and you will stay on the court. There is no reason for Christina to go popping off to the mediator Bill Plaschke.

Hit a few shots, play a little defense (for a change) and win at least six championships, then you can do all the complaining you want.

Glen, I have always thought you were a great ballplayer and still do. I defended “The Trade” and also still do. But in all due respect, have you ever told your wife to shut up?

Who has the greater credibility and basketball wisdom? Coach Phil Jackson, winner of six NBA championships, or first-time NBA finals participant Glen Rice and his wife, Christina?

Eureka! I’ve finally found Glen Rice’s lost aggression. His wife took it from him. Come on, Glen, is she really the household basketball spokesperson? Seems to me that if Mr. Rice has a problem with Mr. Phil Jackson, Mr. Rice would discuss the problem with Mr. Jackson.

I don’t understand Mrs. Rice’s role in this issue, unless, of course, she also took her husband’s jump shot and can defend a Pacer forward.

Boy, this takes the cake. I thought I read and heard it all until I read Bill Plaschke’s article this morning [“It’s Time for Rice, Jackson to Talk,” June 13]. Of all the emotionally juvenile reactions in sports these days, Rice’s wife spewing idiotic garbage about her husband’s role on the best team in basketball is a knee-slapping joke! Glen should be embarrassed and ashamed. I’m embarrassed for him.

It’s bad enough to have mommies and daddies spitting out such lunacy regarding their “do no wrong” precious kids in AYSO soccer, but a professional athlete’s wife?

I know that one’s life companion should be one’s biggest fan, but suggesting that choking the coach is a good idea or that her husband has met with a conspiracy is just plain dumb.

The only point of having Mr. Rice on the team at all is for his outside shooting. If he can’t even do that, then Glen, have a seat, tell the wife to hold her tongue, cheer your teammates on, collect a championship ring and please play in a different jersey next year.

Poor Glen Rice, I didn’t realize it has been Phil Jackson who has been causing him to miss all those open shots, all playoffs long. He really should go to a team in the East, whose priority isn’t winning.

Glen Rice can’t defend anyone, and when he handles the ball, he usually turns it over. But now his wife thinks he isn’t playing enough because Phil Jackson doesn’t like him, and Bill Plaschke agrees with her. And I thought T.J. Simers was crazy.
